5Too cute!!!  Jul 08, 2006 By Miriam L. A. Gunn
We got this in at the store I work at, and we were all enchanted! This was the very first time any of us had seen a set of play food for young children of sushi!

Three kinds of sushi come with shrimp, tuna, salmon roe, and egg pieces. The proper condiments are included: ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce, and of course, chopsticks! The round "dots" on the sushi rolls are velcro, so that you can stick the pieces together and slice through them with the play cleaver, and the velcro even gives it an almost authentic chopping sound!

It is just lovely to look at. All of the pieces are solid wood, and beautifully painted. The box is in black with details of cherry blossoms, and it has a "menu" on the back for restauraunt pretend play!

I plan to get one for a friend's child, but I have to admit that I'm really tempted to buy one for myself, too!

5Original and fun!  Feb 28, 2007 By PCG "CrazyX3"
My sister in law has a gift for choosing unique toys and books for my kids, and this sushi set tops the list. She chose this for my son's second birthday, and he loves it! His three and a half year old brother and seven year old sister have also been playing with it a lot. They spend so much time "making sushi," selling it to each other, and eating it. The accessories like the knife and chopsticks are great, and the velcro for assembling the sushi is a brilliant idea. Most kids love to play with pretend food, but pretend sushi is just so cool. The box the set comes in is great, not only for storage but because it's so cute. Even if you don't care for sushi, you'll love this toy and so will your kids!

5This is so cool...  Dec 30, 2006 By Annemarie Karnbach
My hubby and I got it as a gag gift for Christmas, and love it! The kids started playing with it and really have a lot of fun with it. The chopsticks have velcro on them so that they can pick the pieces up. The ginger pieces are felt, and my daughter thinks they look like bandaids. They make sure everything is put back and we play dinner all the time. My daughter even tried sushi last time we went out! Really cute!

4Sushi chopping is so much fun!  Sep 08, 2009 By A. Lynch
My child has a developmental disability, cerebral palsy. Finding any toy that is fun as well as possible for her to work with her spastic arms and hands has been very challenging. A friend gave us some spare Melissa & Doug's fruit pieces and a wooden knife from another set they had, and my girl absolutely loved chopping those pears and lemons in half!
She loves to eat sushi, so when I found this wooden play sushi set I was very excited! The box and its contents are gorgeous and clever. There are even little, pink felt pieces for the pickled ginger, and the chopsticks have opposing velcro so once the sushi is chopped into pieces you can pick them up and "eat" them!
The cleaver is a little sharp at the point, but it makes a satisfying "THWACK" when it is chopping, and sound effects are always appreciated in my house!
I and my girl Love This Toy!
My only complaint is that the white paint on some of the sushi rolls is starting to flake off after pretty minimal chopping. My guess is quality has gone down a bit in Melissa & Doug toy factory town. :-(
Thumbs Up, though, for a toy that is creative and different. And for being something a kid with minimal fine motor skills can still enjoy playing!!!!

5Fantastic, Unusual Little Novelty Item.  Nov 06, 2007 By Dazed and Amused
This little toy holds no age boundary. We actually saw it in the fish section while we were buying packaged sushi and I just had to buy it for my daughter. She's 13 and a "japedophile", very addicted to the Japanese culture. We had so much fun with it we're buying a second one for her friend in Colorado who she met online! A real cute novelty item, sure to make anyone laugh. We leave it on the kitchen table, and someone actually said, "Ooh, sushi, can I have one?" Without realizing it was fake!
